Why do we need an updated Active Transportation Plan?
An Active Transportation Plan (ATP) is a long-range planning document that outlines the community’s vision, goals, and priority projects for improving active transportation. MODL’s previous ATP was completed in 2010, and the Municipality has been able to implement many of the recommendations from the Plan. The updated ATP will help prioritize capital spending and provide strategic direction for active transportation improvements for the next 10 years.
Community members have expressed a desire for more active transportation facilities through other Plans and engagement processes. Why are you asking us to repeat what you already know?
Going into this project, we are fortunate to not be starting from scratch. We have heard from community members about their desires for improved active transportation opportunities in the region through other projects such as the Active Living Strategy and MODL2040. However, there are likely to be specific recommendations, requests, and community priorities that have not yet been discussed or raised previously. This process aims to discover where residents would like to see future investments in AT infrastructure, as well as what types of facilities, programs, and policies they would like to see enacted that would get more people moving under their own power in our community.
The engagement process for the updated ATP will put a spotlight on active transportation, and additional technical analysis will be done to better understand active transportation issues and opportunities today.
What are the different types of active transportation facilities that will be considered for MODL?
There are a variety of pedestrian and cycling facilities that could be considered as part of the ATP. Some examples include:
