Consultation has concluded
Council is elected to make decisions for the Municipality about services, policies, and programs. Councillors are elected from polling districts and are required to make decisions that are in the best interests of the Municipality as a whole and not just the needs of the polling district they represent.
The Municipal Government Act requires every municipality to conduct a study in 2022 on the number and boundaries of polling districts in the municipality, their fairness and reasonableness, and the number of Councillors. After the study is completed, the Municipality must apply to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to confirm or alter the number of Councillors and boundaries of polling districts.
Changes coming from this review will not come into effect until the 2024 Municipal Election.
Please review 2022-12-13 Memo to Council re motion to make NSUARB application in the Documents section, on the right.
